Dr. Richard Earle, Ph.D.
Richard is an internationally respected and published authority on stress and controlling its impacts on wellbeing and performance both in individuals and in rapidly changing workplaces.
He earned his Ph.D. [behavioural science in health] at the University of Toronto, and has done post-doctoral studies both at Harvard and with the University of Montreal’s Hans Selye who is internationally regarded as “the father of the stress field”.
Drs. Selye and Earle worked with eight Nobel Laureates to co-found, in 1979, the Canadian Institute of Stress.
Since 1971, Dr. Earle has taught at several Ontario universities, including in the graduate faculties of Behavioural Science and of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
His consulting and training clients include leading North American, Japanese and Saudi corporations in such fields as financial and insurance services, mass media, retail, health care, natural resources, petrochemical, manufacturing, airlines, high tech, internet and IT, plus various government departments and professional services firms.
He has written several books plus numerous professional papers, and has authored e-learning programs and online psychometric profiles for the corporate sector, as well as several internet-based self-directed learning sites. He is a frequent contributor to television, radio and print media, and has acted as spokesman for national multi-media campaigns focused on depression, anxiety and work~life balance.
In addition to his roles as Managing Director of the Canadian Institute of Stress / Hans Selye Foundation and as a Principal in The Vital Corporation, Dr. Earle trains senior health and workplace professionals globally via the internet as Certified Stress & Wellness Consultants. He also maintains an executive coaching practice with the Medisys Health Group.
Alan is the founder of Smofsky Strategic Planning (SSP), a strategic planning consultancy dedicated to measurably improving workplace and population health, engagement and performance. The firm’s approach emphasizes global healthcare planning with local implementation through effective alignment of resources. Allan consults on issues – and to stakeholders – across the spectrum of health.
A fluently bilingual (French & English) native of Montreal, Canada, Allan founded SSP in 2004 following several years in senior-level leadership and consulting positions with global health/ human resources consulting firms and service providers
He is also Associate Editor of the International Journal of Workplace Health Management .
Allan is a recipient of the Rogers Media (Canada), Working Well Who’s Who in Workplace Health award and is a frequently invited speaker and writer in Canada and internationally on health & well-being issues.
Debra Welsh, MSN, RN
Debra is a Health Strategist and the Managing Principal of ECO Health Strategies, which specializes in both workplace and population health strategic planning, program development, employee/patient engagement strategies and behavior/lifestyle change, outcomes evaluation, and research. As a registered nurse with a background in both industrial and acute care hospital settings, Debra has extensive experience in integrated disability management, health/wellness/disease management strategies, health benefits, and workplace safety. Debra has worked on health projects in both the US and Canada.
Debra holds a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing and Clinical Health Coach certificate. She continues to focus research efforts in the area of workplace psychological stress and its impact on physiological health and well-being.
